Before You Start
You can apply for your provisional licence 3 months before your 17th birthday. You will need a D1 form from the Post Office or fill out our NEARLY 17? Form and we will send you one and a FREE Highway Code Book so that you can start studying for your Theory Test.
Once you have your provisional licence and you are 17 you are legally able to drive a car on public roads in the UK, but you must be supervised. The person supervising your must be over 21 and have held a full UK licence for at least 3 years. Don't forget the "L" plates! One each on the front and back of the car fastened securely and not obstructing your vision. Remember to check carefully that you are insured to drive the car you want to practice in. If you are having lessons with a qualified instructor in his/her car then you will automatically be covered under his/her own insurance policy.

Your First Lesson
You will need to bring both parts of your driving licence.
Both you and your instructor will read and sign our Learners Agreement
Do wear comfy shoes! Stiletto heels or steel toe caps are not really suitable for driving.
Don't go to a big party the night before your lesson. You need to be alert at all times while you are driving. Please tell your instructor if you have been drinking or are unwell because some medicines can make you sleepy and not safe to be on the road.
Don't worry if you are nervous, it's only natural to be unsure when you are learning a new skill. Talk to your instructor - he or she will know how to help you.
