Codes Of Conduct

At Chiltern Learners we firmly believe that the Instructor and the pupil are entering into an agreement. Set out below is the conduct we expect both from our Instructors and their pupils.

The Instructors Responsibilites

  • You should not 'piggyback' pupils (i.e. collect the next pupil either during or after your lesson).
  • The instructor will always aim to be on time and if delayed for any reason will try to inform you of this.
  • Any money collected from the pupil must be recorded and be accountable to the pupil especially when the pupil has paid in advance.
  • The pupil has a choice of how many lessons to pay for and must never be put under pressure to pay in advance. All arrangements must be suitable to both instructor and pupil.
  • You must never make any inappropriate contact or make rude, sexually suggestive or racist comments or jokes.
  • You should allow your pupil driving tuition for the full time paid for (unless otherwise agreed by mutual consent or if you or they are unfit to drive for any reason).
  • You should not stop your lesson to leave your pupil unattended in the vehicle to run personal errands (shopping, posting mail, etc).
  • You must not use your mobile phone during lessons (except in the case of an emergency)
  • You should not smoke during your tuition time or stop the vehicle and make a pupil wait while you get out for a cigarette. If you and the pupil agree to have a cigarette stop then you must both smoke outside of the car.
  • You should after each lesson discuss the pupil's progress honestly without building false hopes or giving unnecessary criticism.
  • You should not cancel the pupil's lesson without contacting the pupil first and offering another suitable appointment.
  • You should not ask another instructor to take your place either on a lesson or a test without first agreeing this with the pupil. If it is for a test then you must make sure that the pupil is of a suitable standard.

The Pupils Responsibilites

  • The pupil must bring their driving licence to the first lesson so that the instructor can check it before you drive.
  • An eyesight check will be done so if you need to wear contacts or glasses please bring them with you
  • Payment is due upon or before the first lesson. Discounts on block bookings of 5 or 10 lessons only apply if paid in advance. Any late payments may be charged at a higher rate.
  • Lessons cancelled by the pupil with less than 2 days notice are payable unless there are mitigating circumstances. The Individual Instructor has discretion on this matter.
  • It is the pupil's responsibility to make sure that all the lesson dates & times are noted. Appointment cards are available from your instructor
  • When collecting a pupil for a driving lesson, the instructor will wait for 15 minutes, & if at such time they have not turned up, then they will move on & the lesson will have to be paid for.
  • Any pupil deemed to be unfit for the lesson at pick up (Under the influence of drink or drugs) will forfeit the lesson & full fee is payable.
  • The instructor reserves the right to withdraw their vehicle from being used for the driving test should the pupil not be up to test standard
  • The instructor cannot be held responsible for postponements of lessons due to severe weather conditions, illness or mechanical breakdown. Alternative times will always be offered.
  • When taking the practical driving test, all the time away from home is payable. This needs to cover at least an hour's practice before the test, the hire of the car for the test and the journey home again.
